Bo Li's "Number Five Forest": A New Definition of Commercial Complex

Winner of the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021

Bo Li's "Number Five Forest" redefines the concept of a commercial complex, blending nature with architecture in a unique and innovative way. This award-winning design offers a fresh perspective on space utilization and interaction, creating a harmonious blend of functionality and aesthetics.

Located on the serene side of Xincheng Road, amidst lush greenery, the "Number Five Forest" stands in stark contrast to the bustling urban landscape. The design draws inspiration from nature, using an abundance of "planting" to create a tranquil and organic environment. The aim was to restore the space to a simpler state, forming an interior landscape that connects with nature.

Unlike traditional commercial complexes, "Number Five Forest" explores new space use functions. The same spatial form can serve as a café, a show venue, a podium, a theater, or an exhibition space, demonstrating the versatility of the design. The project covers a total of 1,000 square meters, offering ample space for various functions.

The realization of this design was achieved through meticulous planning and innovative thinking. From the large structures to the smallest details, every element was carefully considered. The enclosed green plant space, surrounded by glass, not only meets the needs for daily lighting but also extends the visual experience, creating a vibrant and lively atmosphere reminiscent of a rainforest.

The design also features a unique interaction element. The light from the patio pours down at just the right moments, creating a spiritual ambiance unique to the space. This interaction exists in the transient thoughts of those who experience it, adding a layer of depth to the design.

The project, which started in December 2019 in Wuxi and finished in September 2020, faced several design challenges. One of the main challenges was to break the monotony of the rectangular white box by incorporating a circle. This not only broke the single geometric form but also liberated the familiar walking path, creating a rich flow of movement without constraints.

In conclusion, Bo Li's "Number Five Forest" is a testament to the power of innovative design. It challenges traditional notions of space utilization and interaction, creating a unique and engaging environment. This design, which was awarded Silver in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021, showcases outstanding expertise and innovation, introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
